Juris Doctor Requirements

A candidate for the degree of Juris Doctor must:

  • Satisfy all academic requirements for graduation
  • Be of good moral character
  • Satisfy all indebtedness to the University
  • Make formal application for his/her degree to the Registrar prior to the date listed in the School of Law Calendar
  • Students must have residency during your entire legal education
  • Be recommended to receive the degree of Juris Doctor by the Faculty
  • Be present at Commencement


J.D. Graduation Application


The Law School Registrar will review the following requirements for graduation:

  • 87 total credits completed
  • No more than 18 non-classroom credits are used in the total 87 credit requirement
  • 2.0 cumulative grade point average
  • 2.0 final year cumulative grade point average
  • Upper Level Writing Requirement completed
  • Professional Skills Requirement completed (required for students that matriculated prior to Fall 2016)
  • Experiential Learning Requirement completed (required for students that matriculated Fall 2016 or after)
