Pam Bailey, a practicing paralegal for over 20 years, is the program director of the Paralegal Institute at Duquesne University School of Law.  Bailey is a graduate of the University of South Carolina, has a paralegal certificate, and earned her master’s degree from St. Francis Graduate School of Industrial Relations in 1993.  

She was a two-term president of the National Association of Legal Assistants (1994 – 1996), a professional association of over 18,000 members.  She completed two terms on the American Bar Association School Approval Commission (1997-2003) and served on the ABA Consortium on Legal Services to the Public.  She is a former member of the board of directors of the American Association for Paralegal Education and served as its publications chair (2004-2008). 

Bailey has worked extensively in the areas of business litigation, labor and employment, and immigration.  She was a senior paralegal and practice group paralegal manager with the law firms of The Stolar Partnership, St. Louis and Reed Smith Shaw & McClay in Pittsburgh. She volunteered as a paralegal with Pittsburgh’s Neighborhood Legal Services (NLS) in its unemployment compensation appeals area. 

Bailey has been associated with Duquesne’s Paralegal Institute since 1994 when she was appointed to the Institute’s Advisory Board.  She has taught in the program since 1996.

She was the 2000 Paralegal Pro Bono Award recipient of the Allegheny County Bar Foundation and the Allegheny County Bar Association and received the 2001 Truell Equal Justice Award for her pro bono work for NLS.  In July 2005 the National Association of Legal Assistants awarded her its 2005 Founder’s Award, the pinnacle honor for outstanding and sustained contributions that positively impacted and influenced the future of the paralegal profession.
