Jacob H. Rooksby is the associate dean of administration and an associate professor of law at Duquesne University School of Law in Pittsburgh. In addition to his administrative role, Rooksby teaches courses in torts, intellectual property (IP) subjects, law and higher education, and social media and the law. His primary scholarship focus concerns the impact of IP law and policy on higher education. Rooksby is Of Counsel to the intellectual property group at Cohen & Grigsby, P.C., and the current president of the Pittsburgh Intellectual Property Law Association. He formerly practiced law with McGuireWoods LLP in Richmond, Va., where he was a member of the firm’s IP litigation / patents department and higher education practice team. Rooksby also has experience serving as an expert witness in intellectual property litigation.

Rooksby holds J.D., M.Ed. (social foundations of education), and Ph.D. (higher education) degrees from the University of Virginia. He earned his undergraduate degree, summa cum laude, in Hispanic studies and government from the College of William & Mary, where he was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. Rooksby is co-author (with Kaplin, Lee, and Hutchens) of the forthcoming 6th edition of The Law of Higher Education, the leading treatise in the field. His book on IP law and policy issues in higher education, The Branding of the American Mind, is available through Johns Hopkins University Press and Amazon.com.
