American Association of Law Libraries honors Associate Dean Frank Liu

The American Association of Law Libraries (AALL) named Associate Dean Frank Y. Liu of Duquesne University School of Law as the newest member of the prestigious AALL Hall of Fame. The association inducted Liu into the Hall of Fame during the group’s annual business meeting in Chicago, citing his significant contributions to the law library profession and the legal education community.

In addition to serving as Duquesne Law's associate dean for legal programs, Liu is the director of the Center for Legal Information and the Allegheny County Law Library, and professor of law.  Liu served as assistant law librarian at Villanova School of Law, assistant law librarian at the University of Texas, and associate professor of law at Duquesne before moving into leadership of Duquesne's law library in 1980.

He co-founded the Chinese and American Forum on Legal Information and Law Libraries, which organized international conferences in Beijing, Philadelphia, Shanghai, and Hawaii. And he has served as a member of the American Bar Association’s law school site evaluation teams.

Liu developed the faculty exchange program between Duquesne University School of Law and the China University of Political Science and Law, and co-founded Duquesne’s first American Bar Association-approved summer study of law in Beijing. Liu also helped to establish Duquesne’s LL.M. for Foreign Lawyers program. He is an honorary professor of China University of Political Science and Law and the Beijing Jiaotung University.

Recognized as a national and international authority in the field of legal information and law library management, Liu has been an active member of AALL for 40 years, often serving on leadership committees and advising young professionals new to the profession. He continues to teach law students Research for Law Practice and other courses in addition to his administrative role.
