Third-year student recognized for Gourley Cup honor

Friday, February 17, 2017

Ryan Naumann, 3L, was named Second Best Advocate among all competitors at the 2017 Academy of Trial Lawyers Mock Trial Competition in February.

The Academy Competition (also known as the “Gourley Cup”), is particularly difficult because of its structure of having only one preliminary round and one final round, and the top two teams being selected after one trial. A total of 24 advocates from law schools including the University of Akron, Case Western, George Mason, University of Pittsburgh, Widener-Delaware, and William & Mary, participated in the competition.

Although the team did not advance to the finals, Duquesne Law gave a strong performance. Congratulations to Naumann and all of the students, as well as Adjunct Professor Julian Neiser, L’01, and Andrew Rothey, L’14, the team coaches.

Peter D. Giglione, L’02, directs the trial advocacy program.
